I had the brisket, Mrs 48k had the bacon. Possibly the best burger I've ever eaten, but very very messy. Couldn't manage the chicken thighs.

Discovered a surprisingly good value burger from our local fish and chip shop. Mrs V. wanted F&C, I didn't, and I was ordering on their website, so I looked at alternatives.
6oz Cheeseburger £5.30, 12oz and extra £1.55 Total £6.80. I added Lettuce, Onions, Tomato and Ketchup for free. The beef patties were thick and juicy and served with brioche buns. This would be a £16 burger elsewhere. The problem with F&C shop burgers are that some just lob them in the fryer and you end up with a dried meat protein thing, and some use the el-cheapo flour buns which are dry.

A local chippy does amazing flame grilled burgers, granted they use basic catering burgers but they are nice when done on the grill and the properly toasty the buns on the grill too.Cheap burgers from chicken shops on the other hand can be good. One of our local kebab shops have just launched a smash burger joint, only been a couple of times but they are very good.
4 smash patties with cheese is like £8 and then £3 for posh chunky skin on chips and a can of pop.

Round these parts, if you ask for a Cheeseburger from a chippy you get 2 burgers with cheese slices in-between, and then deep fried, and then put in a buttered roll. It is absolutely delicious, but afterwards you feel absolutely shameful and dirty. Like you do after you've eaten a whole mixed kebab to yourself

This is what passes for a cheap meal in London nowadays unless you are prepared to venture into zone 4/5 hole in the wall served by Granny at 1030am on a Thursday!
