Found out today that they sell the JC dark produce in the Amazon Fresh shops in London and it’s also available to buy on Amazon too. Surely they can’t be making that much product to supports those sales streams from just the farm.
Of course not. They're just slapping their brand on outside goods.ettore said:

it shows quite well the risks of being a farmer and the just damn hard work and reliance on weather.
Yeah, that's what struck me.I was well aware that crops can completely fail, but I never spent any time considering what that meant.
You chuck tens of thousands in amd get nothing back purely because of weather or pests.
Then it makes sense when Harry Metcalfe makes the point about being better taking a subsidy to stop growing food all together. Take a lower income in exchange for zero risk amd zero hassle.

Later pests are no issue - just spray the whole crop. Of course, that really fks bees unlike dressed seeds...

On top of that you've got ridiculous things like no dressings on the oilseed rape seed, so that cabbage stem flea beetle fks it before it can start growing.
Dressings that other countries are allowed to use - making imports cheaper than our home grown produce.Despite living surrounded by farmland, I am no expert, but the whole subject of food security in this rapidly changing world feels like something we should be more concerned about. Paying farmers not to grow food feels counterintuitive.

I completely agree. Surely it's a no-brainer to try to ensure we're as self sufficient in essential foods as we possibly can be. Will there be a next series?
Yes (despite people jumping to conclusions a while back that it was cancelled after this).Red9zero said:

Yes (despite people jumping to conclusions a while back that it was cancelled after this).Pretty sure they didn’t renew anything with him. I heard it on Smith and Sniff I think it was. But series 4 was already commissioned so that’ll be the last one.
Same with Grand Tour. Certain things were already agreed, but no more.

The evidence was that dressed seeds were still killing pollinators. The evidence suggests it doesn't degrade in soil and water and can be picked up by following crops (or weeds).Later pests are no issue - just spray the whole crop. Of course, that really fks bees unlike dressed seeds...
It would be bad business of JC to dress his seeds (or spray them with insecticide) whilst also claiming the benefits of honey bee production (which in themselves ate controversial at a time of crashing pollinator populations).

Tbh Clarkson said out loud what a lot of people were probably thinking. Pretty sure they didn’t renew anything with him. I heard it on Smith and Sniff I think it was. But series 4 was already commissioned so that’ll be the last one.
