Dear forum,

Chimaera 500, year 95, Serp. Engine

The following symptoms: At cold start after 14 days of standing, not all cylinders run smoothly, but this normalises after a few throttle strokes. Not unusual according to Mr Pohlmann from ACS Germany.

Then, however, after approx. 45 minutes of completely trouble-free driving, sudden loss of power, uneven running on not all cylinders, slight smell of unburnt petrol, jerky throttle response. After approx. 1 minute the phenomenon is gone again and it runs as if nothing had happened!

Replaced so far: distributor cap and finger, ignition cables, plugs, plug extensions and stepper motor.

I know that remote diagnoses are always tricky, but perhaps someone has already experienced a similar phenomenon and has a solution.

Perhaps the concentrated forum knowledge will help.

Best regards from Hamburg
Martin

Where did you get the ignition system parts from?
A lot of the stuff you have to be careful with as its not great quality wise, most people remove the extenders as they are a source of many a problem.
The ignition system on these cars is the cause of a lot of problems so you have to be sure its 100% before moving on.

Keep an eye on the tacho as it plays up. If it's erratic or dropping to zero the ignition amp is failing.

Try running without the plug extenders.Even new ones can be problematic.
I run without them as I had similar issues . I use heat sleeves for heat protection

Thanks so far for the help.

I´ll take out the extensions first and if that doesn´t help change the ignition amp.

Will keep you updated.

Cheers
Martin
