I know it's not the main race, but those empty grandstand seats are pretty noticeable.
No, there's loads of people there, the stands are full, look.

Really? Bonkers.

If you speed in pit lane in practice or qualy you get fined…

If you do it in a race for a competitive pistop you gain an advantage, so obviously time penalties get issued.

What’s the gain that you earn when going through pit lane behind safety car in a queue? Is there an advantage that people need to be dissuaded from taking by harsh penalties? Nope… so why the severe penalty? It’s toughest penalty we’ve seen for almost anything for years. Even deliberately ramming or brake tearing hasn’t attracted worse…

Amazingly bad…! For reasons you outline.

Could argue even less safety issue as clear all cars are chugging through.
It is disappointing because Lewis actually managed a decent race in a st car. But... I guess rules are rules, they applied the rules in response to a slam dunk error. It is what it is.

As said above, it makes no odds, they're fighting for nothing this season. It's weird that an innocent error has resulted in the same penalty as kmags endless awful driving! But that's more a failing of the rules system than the application of the rules.

Hopefully he'll get some sort of semi decent result in quali as a form of retribution this weekend.

What does a driver got to do before he gets a proper penalty, TV direction has to be the worst for years

What idiot decided to have a sprint race here?

So biggest penalty dished out is for speeding in the pit lane whilst behind the safety car, you couldn't make that up

Kmag being honest. Admitting he was breaking the rules and driving like a dick on purpose. Clearly the penalties dont offer a deterrent.
He and HAAS should be penalised as Hulkenburg benefitted.
Surely this is what licence points should be for?
For Magnussen yes.

But at some point a line is crossed if multiple rules are broken by one teammate to benefit another. There needs to be some form of sanction against the team.

In this case possibly a constructors points loss.

I turned it off straight after the chequered flag; therefore I don't if it was discussed a bit later.

How did Hamilton manage to speed through the pit lane? I assume it was his first time through before he got picked up by the Safety Car? Otherwise all the other cars would have been bunched up the second time through and, being mid-field, he wouldn't have been able to travel above the speed restriction.

Ridiculous. Magnussen ran Hamilton off the track after an overtake deliberately. Cut the corner to stay ahead.
How do you speed through the pitlane behind a safety car? and amazing how it was used to take points of Lewis.

Then the circuit looked rubbish, two DRS zones and no one could overtake or really get close, apart from the Red Bulls?

As for Brundle blaming Lewis at the first corner... Looked like Stroll caused all that but cutting across Alonso, just Alonso being clever and trying to blame Hamilton rather than his teammate.

I need to watch it again but I think Lewis locked a font wheel and understeered into the car on his outside (Stroll?).

No problem with slowing down competitors to assist a team mate during a race, or aggressive driving. However if that strategy is implemented by driving repeatedly in blatant and now admitted contravention of the rules, that is CHEATING. Shame on you KMag and Haas team. Deserves a team DSQ.

This after Alonso caused Russel to crash- my views on Alonso are well documented, Crashgate, McLarengate,, trying to set the team against Hamilton when the rookie started beating him, destabileds the whole team because his ego couldn't take it

Well he can't criticise stroll...If stroll had run around the outside rather than cut from the outside to middle, taking Alonsos space it would have been fine, but better to play the game...

Just looked like everyone had to set up to go fast down the straights, slow into the corners and belt away. Just ended up with a big train

Not a fan then?

He's one of the old school; probably the last. There are some modern drivers whom one wouldn't want to marry your daughter but, in general, they are a pleasant bunch. I miss the characters we used to have, but it's a shame Alonso will never be one of them.
