'Riley Blue' will be out for the first time this year at the weekend, over a month later than usual as there has been more fettling to do. We did over 4,000 miles last year between March and October, this year we'll be doing around 20 events from Cumbria to Dorset so we'd rather have it 'right'.

Car taxed on 1 Apr and I've done precisely 241 miles in it, was back in the garage after about 5 days as weather been absolutely rubbish on South Coast.

Here's hoping for a bit of sun next week...next year I'm not going to tax until 01 May.

I’m consoling myself by spreading the cost over the ~17 years I’ve owned it.
I’m absolutely not thinking about the cost per mile…

Owning an enthusiast car is a diabolical paradox. They break if you use them. They break if you don't use them. The more you use them the more it costs so you can't use them too much but have to use them consistenty to avoid lack of use problems. But we still pay for servicing, insurance, and taxes the same no matter how much we use them.

You really can’t rationalise owning a toy car

You can’t! But I tell myself I don’t drink (that much!) I don’t smoke and I don’t do drugs! Still cars are expensive. But some people pay thousands for a tube of graphite and dangle it over a lake in the rain at weekends, every man needs a hobby and you gotta pay to play!

Currently SORN but recently re-insured and MOT booked in a couple of weeks.

For various reasons it didn't turn a wheel last year, so fingers crossed for MOT. It's only done 5 miles since last service though.

It survived being half-submerged in Rufford Ford so I don't think that puddle will upset it too much!

It’s on the (long) list! I did them a bit ago but did a crap job so need to get them done properly. I took it up to the Lake District last September and ended up driving the last leg in the dark, I may as well have used candles.

Just about to pump the tires up, roll it out, wipe down and put it away again till next year I think.
Bit sorn since earlier in the year, can’t imagine it will be out in the road in 2024.

That is a lovely car.

There is a 2003 Red MR2 with a genuine 35k ish miles that has been left abandoned in a makeshift shed on a plot of land at the back of my garden begging for somebody to rescue it.

The owner left it there as a protest after a long drawn out dispute with the local council after failing to get planning permission to build on the piece of land which has no vehicular access rights. He then sold up and left the area..

It looks pretty sorry for itself but could be turned into a very desirable car again.

It would be poetic justice if somebody decided to "acquire" it after all the trouble and cost he caused the Parish Council, and the number of people he upset in the two years he lived in the village.
