Worked for Guy Salmon in Thames Ditton in late 80’s and they sold a Lamborghini Jalpa to an Arabian chap who paid in full and was never heard from again - from memory I think they had a London Hotel as an address but he had moved on - they kep the car for a couple of years and then resold it

Well, my shift it or pay storage seems to have had the desired effect.

He's apparently got a recovery vehicle coming. I'll believe it when I see it. Watch this space.

I sold my Alfa 156 to an English chap living in Holland.

We chatted cars on the phone for about half an hour, he then said that I sounded like an honest fella and paid a good price straight into my bank account.

Had to text him a few times over a couple of weeks as to when he was coming to get it.

An Eastern European fellow with a low loader eventually turned up and took it away.

Ahh, sorry.

Within a week of my "shift it, or pay storage" a man with a beaver tail wagon turned up to take it to Tilbury.

Last weekend oddly enough the buyer contacted me to tell me it had arrived safely in Senegal, but somewhere en route the headlights and grille had been stolen. So now there is a knackered i40 sitting in Senegal with no headlights, grille and a totally knackered engine. smile

It's the very occasional true story that must make the real scammers clap their hands and sellers think just perhaps this one is genuine.
A real African who really bought something remotely. hehe

Sort of. He did spend a weekend on National Express to spend ten minutes looking at the car. laugh

I was hugely sceptical when I had the initial enquiry, obviously. But he transferred the money in front of me. And went happily on his way.

rofl that's brilliant that he took the time to send you that. Sounds like he was an odd but good bloke then. Nobody who was a complete arse would bother to do that.

I think he meant the two LED spotlights I fitted to disguise a pheasant strike. The grille is still broken. It's also picked up some evil dents and scrapes down the passenger side.

I suppose your average Senegalese won't care. After all, they've got heated seats and steering wheel. biggrin

I think he did well then!

I've seen worse arrive in the UK, missing more parts, sold via through reputable auction houses and shipping companies.

He must be a King out there in his Hyundai!

Where is his nearest dealer? laugh

Ok, no lawyer, did some contract law.

Can you charge storage fees, I don't think so as it wasn't part of your agreement.

Can you tow it to a lay by, again I would say no, you did not agree on this at time of contract.

You need to keep the goods for 3 months, send two notices that you will dispose of the goods and then return the money less any expenses like advertising, auction fees and the difference in sale price, so if you got £500 for the car you need to return the £500 less expenses. I can't remember if the 3 months is from the time of sale or first notice, I think it is from the date the notice was sent/posted.

It is a very long time since I did this at collage so?
