Our fascias, soffits etc are in need of some TLC, probably not been touched for at least 15 years so the paintwork is pretty cracked and flaky. Not interested in swapping out for UPVC so I'll be sanding down and slapping some fresh paint on. Looks like water based is the way to go these days so any opinions on what's going to go on the easiest and last the longest, current contenders appear to be

Bedec MSP
Bedec Barn paint
Zinnser Allcoat
Sandolin Superdec

Anything to choose between them or are they all much of a muchness? Everything is basic white so colour pallete isn't any issue

Thanks

All those are good, but what’s wrong with oil-based? Still better outside than water based and stuff that high is something you want to get right first time.

From what I've read water based lasts as long, goes on easier with no undercoat/primer needed, doesn't yellow and is easier clean up.

I had yellowing on oil based white in the past, as not enough sun.
Would be ok outside.

I use Zinsser allcoat for all my interior and exterior white woodwork and bedec barn paint for all my black woodwork and haven't gone wrong with either.

Barn paint all days long, I was recommended to use barn paint by the roofer specifically bedec.

Id had some emergency roofing work done and subsequent replacement of facias due to rotting in December last year so i bought this - https://premiumpaints.co.uk/products/everest-trade... - as i couldn't get the bedec barn paint in the colour i needed quickly and this was the first one I found online.

So i did take a bit of a gamble as this was the first time I had used them but the paint was brilliant on the new facias as well as old, and now 6 months later still looks like it was painted last week.

New wood needed two coats and I would have got away with one on existing painted wood but gave them two as well while the scaffold was up.

Thanks looks like it'll probably be the Bedec Barn Paint which is handy as it's the cheapest and stocked at local Toolstation

Did email Bedec to see which they recommended, they went with MSP but only based on that it will give a 'bit of a better finish'. That's not really a concern for me as it's an old property and a more rustic look will suit it better anyway.

Got no experience of Bedec but can heartily recommend Sadolin Superdec. Our beach hut (like all the others) is painted in the stuff and I can’t imagine a more aggressive environment (timber building / movement), salt air, occasional sea water splashing during storms / spring tides. Yet it has lasted 8 years and still doesn’t look bad (needs doing again for protection but it’s hardly falling off the frame).

I did all my fascias and soffits in it last year (same environment bar the sea water splashing - hopefully!). After normal prep it just goes on with enough coats until you get the required coverage - 2 usually, sometimes 3. It’s not cheap though at £100+ / 5l.

Talking to all the pro decorators in the locale last year, the only paints they used was either oil based Dulux or the Superdec.
