I'm a south east Londoner from 1952 to 2019 when we moved to York. I know London and I'm aware of what most bits of it are like, good and bad, so York is a doddle for us.

But...we are bored with York and fancy a move back home-ish, preferably near the sea.

Places being considered are along the Kent coast from Tankerton through to Bexhill on the Sussex coast. Budget is up to £900k but happy to pay much less.

Looking for a house of any period with some kind of sea view close to the town centre or station.

Priorities are a garage and a decent size garden, easy and quick trains to London (and easy station parking too) and a town that is fairly lively after 6.00pm. A decent art scene and maybe music too would be nice.

Places being considered are Margate, Ramsgate, Dover, Folkestone, Walmer, Deal, Hastings, St Leonards and Bexhill.

Now, none of these is south Kensington and I know that but I'm interested to know what people with actual and current experience think of these places.

And it's places I'm interested in, rather than houses.

My Mother lives in Hastings ( long boring story ) and at the top of the town which is quite nice.
The old part of Hastings is also quite nice.
Anything else there not so much !

mrsrlw is from Hastings and we know it quite well. As you say, good and not so good bits. Nice beach though.
